Boksburg SPCA unwraps its Christmas Cheer Fund
The community is once again encouraged to open their hearts and support the SPCA's Christmas Cheer Fund
As the season of giving arrives, the Boksburg SPCA is inviting the community to share in a different kind of Christmas spirit, one filled with wagging tails, grateful purrs, and second chances.
The organisation’s beloved Christmas Cheer Fund is officially kicking off on November 1, running until the first week of January, and aims to raise R100 000 to help care for animals during the festive rush.
Every year, the shelter’s kennels overflow as lost, abandoned, and surrendered pets arrive seeking refuge. The funds raised will not only ensure full bellies and warm beds this Christmas but also support a number of key projects: two new spay sets for the clinic; a solar system for the clinic; enrichment items for the new cattery; dry and wet food for dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens; and an outreach sterilisation and treatment fund to aid animals in underprivileged areas.
To spread some Christmas cheer, residents can visit the SPCA at Railway Street, Boksburg, or make a donation directly to Boksburg SPCA, Absa Bank, branch code 632005, account number 4046388139.
Use ‘Christmas Cheer’ and your name or anonymous as the payment reference. The Boksburg Advertiser will feature regular donor updates on its website.
Last festive season, the society exceeded expectations, raising an incredible R119 015.
Thanks to the Christmas Cheer support, a total of 75 outreach sterilisations have been completed, helping to manage the stray animal population in nearby communities. A new theatre light has been delivered to the clinic, improving efficiency and safety during surgeries at the SPCA’s medical facility.
The SPCA managed to buy food for the pound animals every month, as donations have not kept up with the increasing demand. Eight new cat traps have been purchased to support the humane capture and rescue of stray and feral cats. Medical supplies for outreach work are also being bought monthly to ensure ongoing care in local communities.
This year, the SPCA hopes the community will once again rally behind its mission to give every animal a chance at a happy holiday and a hopeful new year.
