Prayer Walk aims to unite Reiger Park community

Families, faith leaders, and community members will gather at WJ Clements Stadium for a Prayer Walk to declare peace and reconciliation.

EMS Chaplaincy & Trauma Support in Reiger Park, together with local pastors, will be hosting a prayer walk on December 13.

The event will start and finish at WJ Clements Stadium.
Terence Foster, district commander, said the prayer walk is a visible and unified stand for peace and reconciliation.

“By bringing together residents, faith leaders, and community members, we hope to break the silence surrounding the pain in Reiger Park. This is a symbolic and spiritual step toward reclaiming our streets and showing that violence does not have the final say.”

Tickets are priced at R50 per adult and R30 per child, with an early bird special of R40 per adult and R20 per child. R20 from each ticket will be used to purchase school shoes for children in need, providing practical support to families facing emotional and financial challenges.

“The remaining funds will go toward training EMS Chaplaincy & Trauma Support volunteers in grief counselling, equipping them to respond effectively and compassionately to families affected by trauma.”

Foster said they have observed an alarming increase in violent incidents, deep emotional wounds, and unprocessed grief in the community.
“Children are particularly vulnerable, and many families live in constant fear. Without intervention, the cycle of hurt continues.

“The prayer walk is a first step toward supporting those who feel unseen and overwhelmed, and it sets the stage for long-term healing.”

He went on to say that community members can participate beyond attending by spreading awareness, volunteering, donating school shoes or other resources, or offering professional skills such as counselling or first aid.

“This event is part of a broader, long-term commitment to restoring peace in Reiger Park. It marks the beginning of ongoing initiatives including regular prayer gatherings, trauma-support sessions, youth mentorship programmess, and partnerships with local organisations.

“Our goal is sustained transformation, a movement toward unity, violence prevention, and emotional and spiritual healing.”
