St Dominic’s hockey star brings home international bronze

St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls is beaming with pride after young hockey sensation Jemma Ferreira helped secure a bronze medal for South Africa at the prestigious 2025 Mirnawan Cup in Malaysia.
The tournament, known for its fast pace and fierce competition, saw the national side dig deep during the pool stages. South Africa fought their way through a testing run, clinching one win, suffering two narrow defeats, and earning a hard-fought draw against hosts Malaysia.

It was in that clash against the home side that Jemma delivered one of the standout moments of the tournament, slotting in the crucial equaliser that kept South Africa’s knockout hopes alive.
Her team carried that determination into the playoffs, meeting Australia in the battle for third place. After a tense draw in regular time, the South Africans held their nerve in the shoot-out, sealing a 5–3 victory and claiming a well-deserved third-place finish on the international stage.
