Ekon Kai Karate shines at Soweto Tournament with six medal wins

Nine fighters stepped onto the mats in Soweto, and six returned with medals as Ekon Kai Karate proved their strength against tough competition from across South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Ekon Kai Karate proudly represented their dojo at a recent karate tournament in Soweto.

The competition attracted talented karatekas from various regions, including participants who travelled all the way from Zimbabwe, making the event both competitive and exciting.

Shihan Moeti Holomo, founder of the dojo, said Ekon Kai Karate entered the tournament with nine fighters, and six of them returned home with medals, a true reflection of their hard work, discipline, and preparation.
“In the girls’ U30kg division, Aloco Seqhwala secured second position, while Latita Ndata delivered an outstanding performance to claim first position.

In the girls’ U40kg category, Popi Mahlasela fought with determination and earned first position, adding another gold medal to the team’s achievements.
Holomo said the boys’ U30kg division saw Athole Kokoti finish second, while Hlelo Maqinana secured third after a strong showing.

“In the veterans -70kg division, Tokelo Yika claimed second position, and Thomas Moloi finished in fourth position after a tough and competitive bout.
“The tournament was highly competitive, but the Ekon Kai karatekas went well prepared and demonstrated excellent skill, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the event.”

The dojo extended its pride and congratulations to all the fighters who represented the club with courage and determination.
“Their achievements continue to inspire the community and showcase the growing strength of karate within the region.”
