GMF hosts successful spinning fest at The Rock Raceway

“The event once again proved that the passion for motorsport continues to grow."

The Global Female Movement (GFM) founder Narina Naidoo hailed the sold-out second annual Katra and Friends spinning fest at The Rock Raceway on September 26 as a resounding success.

“Motorsport has changed so much over the past 10 years. We are incredibly proud to see how the sport continues to grow and how audiences continue to support these events,” said Naidoo.

“We would like to sincerely thank Monster Energy, Team BYK, all the participating drivers and, most importantly, every supporter who continues to attend and support us.”

The smell of rubber and fuel filled the air as Katlego ‘King Katra’ Mokgoshi and his friends delivered exhilarating performances, which Naidoo said was a display of their passion for motorsport.

“The event once again proved that the passion for motorsport continues to grow, attracting an enthusiastic crowd for a day filled with exhilarating stunts, talented drivers, high-energy entertainment and incredible DJ performances.”

Naidoo also acknowledged Mokgoshi for continuing to play an important role in bringing excitement and energy to the motorsport community.

Despite the growing popularity of spinning and drifting, Naidoo highlighted the ongoing need for greater investment and sponsorship within the province.

“Drivers continue to travel and attend events across the country, and there is clearly a strong appetite for motorsport. However, tourism, sports and recreation stakeholders are yet to provide the level of sponsorship needed to help us take these events to the next level. Without sponsorship, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep gate entry fees as affordable and accessible as they currently are.”

The event also celebrated South Africa’s cultural diversity through motorsport, with the GMF observing Heritage Day during the weekly Wicked Wednesday event on September 23.

The event was sold out.

Attendees were encouraged to proudly showcase their heritage, with participants allowed to dress in traditional attire and celebrate South Africa’s diverse culture.

Naidoo said this reflected GFM’s commitment to creating events that not only entertain but also bring communities together, celebrate diversity and provide opportunities for fans to engage with motorsport in new and exciting ways.

“Global Female Movement would like to thank every fan, driver, sponsor, DJ, supporter and member of the community who contributed to making the second annual Katra and Friends event another memorable success,” Naidoo said.
