Rynsoord petrolhead Narina Naidoo took her Global Female Movement (GFW) across the border to Zimbabwe when two of her racers competed at the Blowout Festival in Harare on November 2.

The festival is a celebration of car culture, music and lifestyle started in 2014 by Selekta Base and hosted at Harare’s Borrowdale Racecourse.

The spinning and drag racing promoter said this was part of her mission to promote spinning on the continent, as she sent siblings Tahir Dawood ‘Tye Tye’ Hassan (11) and 19-year-old Tasneem ‘Tassy’ Hassan.

“I’m dedicated to growing motorsport, and this was part of my plan to grow spinning and drag racing on the African continent. Tassy and Tye Tye from Team Rara were well received in Harare. It was also their first time out of the country,” she said.

While the goal was to give the sport more exposure, Naidoo added that it was also about showing that women are major players in it.

“I aim to not only represent women but motorsport at large. We have to keep the sport affordable and relatable.”

Naidoo hosts the Wicked Wednesday spinning and drag racing weekly event at The Rock Raceway in Brakpan.

She’s also one of the leading female voices in spinning in the country.
