The driver of a cash-in-transit vehicle foiled a business robbery at the Pep store at the Westwood Village centre, on the corner of Atlas and Phillips roads, on November 2.
According to Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Justice Ramaube, three men of which two were armed with guns, entered the store at about 13:30 posing as customers. The robbers then demanded cellphones.
“One of the four victims, a security guard, alleged one of the robbers manhandled him while showing him a gun.
Two accomplices, one wearing a red jacket and dirty black hat and the other a white T-shirt, joined him and demanded employees put all the cellphones into a black bag,” said Ramaube.
At this time an SBV cash-in-transit vehicle entered the centre’s parking area.
The robbers exited the store and were fired upon by the driver of the CIT vehicle, thinking they were going to attack him.
“The suspects were using a white Hyundai fitted with two different registration plates, one the original and the other fake,” said Ramaube.
“Both number plates are known to police. The suspects did not get away with anything as they dropped the black bag.
“No injuries were reported and police are investigating a case of attempted business robbery.”
