Court in Brief
The following cases were recently finalised at the Boksburg/Vosloorus Magistrate’s Courts:
Theft
Mongezi Conon Nduna from Vosloorus was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for three years, for theft. He was also found unfit to possess a firearm.
He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on the same day.
Nduna stole two polishes from Shoprite in Vosloorus on August 8.
Magistrate Cronje presided and prosecutor Maluleke represented the State.
Malicious injury to property
Frans Junius Mbuyisa from Vosloorus was sentenced to an R6000 fine or 12 months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, for malicious injury to property on October 26.
He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on the same day.
On August 8, Mbuyisa damaged a door and window of a house in Vosloorus.
Magistrate Cronje presided and prosecutor Maluleke represented the State.
Possession of stolen property
Two men from Reiger Park pleaded not guilty and were found guilty of possession of the stolen property on November 25, last year.
On July 14, last year, Brandon George and Shaun Palman were found in possession of four pieces of copper cable in Ramaphosa.
George was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, suspended for five years and declared unfit to possess a firearm on October 27. Palman was sentenced to an R1 000 fine or three months’ imprisonment, suspended for five years.
Assault and theft
Roger Stanford (23), with an address unknown to the State, pleaded guilty and was found guilty of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and theft on October 28.
Stanford was charged with robbery, for assaulting a man and taking a cellphone and R80 whilst acting in the furtherance of a common purpose in Boksburg on August 30. The court found him guilty of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and theft.
The court found after the evidence that the conviction will best be served by separating the two acts as it did not happen continuously.
The charges were taken together for sentencing and Stanford was sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment.
