Five people shot dead in one week

Police are probing the deaths of five residents killed in four separate gun-related crimes in the Reiger Park policing precinct within one week.
According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Constable Johannes Msimanga, in the latest incident on November 2, a 45-year-old security guard was gunned down in Joe Slovo informal settlement as he was waiting for his transport to travel to work. His firearm was also taken.
The victim, Wilford Sibondana, suffered three bullet wounds to the back of his head, nose and neck.
On October 30, Lunga Godfrey Lemaona (27) was shot in the chest and died on the scene in Ramaphosa informal settlement.
Also on October 30, two men were shot dead in Joe Slovo informal settlement.
Fraser Potelwa (48) was shot twice in the chest and once in the neck and died on the scene. The other victim, Otle Sonta, believed to be in his 20s, was shot in the back and later died in hospital.
On October 26, in Ramaphosa informal settlement, a security guard turned the tables on a gunman and his accomplice when they attempted to rob him at gunpoint.
According to Msimanga, the victim was walking along the street when the pair approached him. One of them aimed a gun at him, which he grabbed hold of.
A tussle ensued and the gun fell to the ground, upon which the victim took out his own firearm.
The would-be robber grabbed hold of this gun, another tussle ensued and two shots went off. One of the bullets hit the robber in the upper body and the other hit the victim in the left leg.
The robber succumbed to his injury and the victim was rushed to hospital for medical attention.
The accomplice fled the scene but was arrested by Constable Nyaole and his team the next day at his home in Ramaphosa.
He has been charged with attempted murder and could be linked to other cases.
