A man suspected of killing his partner denied bail
The court case was remanded for further investigation, the suspect will appear again in court on September 8.
The 30-year-old suspect who is accused of stabbing Mabore Onicca Raboshakga (34) to death was denied bail when he made his second appearance at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on July 14.
This is according to the family’s spokesperson Manoko Raboshakga. The suspect allegedly murdered his partner Mabore at Carnival Green on July 2.
The Ekurhuleni district SAPS spokesperson, Captain Neldah Sekgobela, said it is alleged that the deceased called the accused to bring back her car after they had exchanged cars on the day of the incident.
“Upon the accused’s arrival an argument broke out. The couple ended up fighting, and the accused allegedly stabbed the deceased. Paramedics were called to the scene and they declared her dead,” explained Sekgobela.
She added that thereafter the Dawn Park police were called to the scene of the crime.
“They opened a case of murder and arrested the suspect at the crime scene,” stated Sekgobela.
The spokesperson for Raboshakga’s family, Manoko, said GBV and femicide have a negative impact on the lives of all South Africans, especially children who are left motherless, such as the deceased’s 12-year-old daughter.
“Mabore was a loving mother to her daughter and a cherished member of our family. She was a woman of strength, resilience and kindness and her untimely passing has left a void that can never be filled,” said Manoko.
An anti-GBV and femicide organisation from Axelandra, Alexandra Masiphephe Network, came to support the family during the court hearing.
The network’s spokesperson, Sidwell Sehoana, said they wanted to ensure the suspect is not granted bail.
“This heart-wrenching incident has once again highlighted the pervasive issue of gender-based violence and femicide, which continues to plague our society.
“It’s a reminder that countless women and children face the threat of violence within their homes, where they should feel safe. We stand firmly against any form of violence and call for urgent action to be taken to address this alarming societal problem.
“Perpetrators of such violence should not be shown any mercy by the justice system, hence we are here to support the family of the woman who was killed,” Sehoana expressed.
She added that the number of such crimes is alarmingly high and shouldn’t be ignored.
