According to police, Dawn Park and surrounding areas have seen an increase in hijackings, house and shop robberies, ATM scams and bag and phone snatchings.
Dawn Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Nkemeleng Mabula confirmed crime prevention operations will increase to combat these trends and patrols already increased in Dawn Park, Villa Liza and Windmill Park.
“Stop-and-searches will also increase and officers deployed to malls and other problematic areas,” she said.
They advise the following:
• Do not let your holiday plans be known, especially if nobody is looking after your home while you are away, as burglars target empty houses.
• Be aware of your surroundings when walking with a cellphone and handbag.
• Don’t accept help from strangers at ATMs.
• Park your car in a safe place.
• Walk in groups, especially in isolated areas.
• Report all crime to Dawn Park SAPS on 011 862 1117 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
