Two staff members were also assaulted during the robbery.

A gang of robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of money and cellphones after targeting Panda Kitchen at The Square on April 15.

According to Boksburg North SAPS station commander Colonel Mack Mngomezulu, two of the men went inside to rob the place. The other two robbers respectively waited inside a silver VW Polo and at the centre’s entrance on Rietfontein Road.

However, unconfirmed reports suggest there was a total of six robbers.

Mngomezulu added the robbers assaulted two staff members.

The station commander said the employees were taken to hospital. He could not divulge information about the seriousness of the injuries.

He added no shots were fired during the robbery.

The scene of the robbery.

Mngomezulu said security guards chased the suspects from Rietfontein Road and lost them near the Griffiths off-ramp.

One of the employees at the store, Teclo Kungugwe, told the Boksburg Advertiser the robbers pretended to be customers seeking to buy rice.

“It was traumatic even though I was not injured,” said Kungugwe.

The police ask community members who might have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect/s to come forward.
