Restaurant robbers still at large

Two staff members were also assaulted during the robbery.

Police are still searching for a gang of robbers that targeted Panda Kitchen at The Square Centre in Rietfontein Road, on April 15, and made off with an undisclosed amount of money and cellphones.

Boksburg North SAPS station commander Colonel Mack Mngomezulu previously explained two of the men went inside while two others waited inside a silver VW Polo at the centre’s entrance in Rietfontein Road.

However, unconfirmed reports suggest there were actually six robbers involved in this incident.

Mngomezulu said the robbers assaulted two staff members.

The station commander said the employees were taken to hospital. He could not divulge information about the seriousness of the injuries.

He added no shots were fired during the robbery.

Mngomezulu said security guards chased the suspects from Rietfontein Road and lost them near the Griffiths Road off-ramp.

At the time, one of the employees at the store, Teclo Kungugwe, told the Boksburg Advertiser the robbers pretended to be customers seeking to buy rice.
“It was traumatic even though I was not injured,” said Kungugwe.

The police ask community members who might have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect/s to come forward.
