Man shot with rubber bullet near ERM taxi rank

It is understood that the man was taken to hospital.

A 26-year-old man was shot in the ear with a rubber bullet on the corner of Bentel Avenue and First Road, near the East Rand Mall taxi rank, on the evening of April 18.

Information currently at hand indicates that a member of a local security company fired the shot.

While the Boksburg North SAPS station commander Colonel Mack Mngomezulu could not divulge much information, he said the man told the police he was walking when he was shot.

According to a well-placed source, the incident happened after one of three marked vehicles from the implicated security company nearly bumped into three homeless people walking down the road.

The source said a fight ensued between the members and one of the people, after which the member in question fetched a weapon from his car and fired at the victim.

Mngomezulu said the police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
