Hawks nab duo for cocaine worth over R1m

The matter will continue on April 10.

A pair arrested regarding cocaine seized to the value of just over R1m appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on March 20.

Matthew Fourie (23) and Kosovo national Nemanja Vuckovic (31) face charges of dealing, trafficking and possession of illicit drugs.

The court postponed the case to April 10 for formal bail applications.

Background
Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Lloyd Ramovha, from the Johannesburg Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation’s Narcotics Unit, achieved success in the fight against drug trafficking, seizing cocaine with an estimated street value of just over R1m and the arrest of two accused on March 15.

Ramovha said the team acted on intelligence received about the transportation and distribution of cocaine from KwaZulu-Natal into Gauteng, Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni.

“The identified vehicle was monitored and intercepted along the R23 near Brakpan at around 04:00. A preliminary investigation led the team to a residence at Groove End Road in Beyerspark after searching the Nissan NP 200 uncovered 2kg of cocaine valued at over R670 000.

“The team proceeded to the second location on Third Road, Albertskroon, where they discovered another kilogram of cocaine valued at around R330 000 and confiscated a loaded licensed 9 mm pistol for further testing.”

The provincial head of the Hawks in Gauteng, Major General Ebrahim Kadwa, commended the team, “We commend the dedicated members of the Johannesburg SOCI Narcotics Unit for their efforts in curbing the distribution of illicit drugs and ensuring the safety of our communities. The continued partnership between law enforcement and the public is vital in fighting crime,” he concluded.
