“Though justice is slow, it is not denied.”
These were the words of Jeremy Moonsamy, brother of the late Michaela Moonsamy Yellapan, as he reflected on his sister’s murder.
Jeremy spoke of the deep grief that continues to weigh heavily on the Moonsamy family more than a year after Michaela’s death.
“It’s hard to find the words at this moment. It’s been over a year, and it still feels like the court process is moving painfully slowly. The investigation was completed more than three months ago, yet there are still postponements.”
He said the family’s hope now rests on what happens next in court.
“I am hoping and praying that the next court date will be more decisive. If not, we will be calling on higher courts and the justice system to take action.”
Jeremy added that it still hurts the family every day, knowing that Michaela’s vibrant life was taken in an instant.
“We do not hate anyone, and we know that nothing will bring my sister back, but we want to see justice done. We ask for continued support during this time.”
He also expressed gratitude for the widespread support the family has received.
“I thank everyone across South Africa, and those abroad, who have stood with us.”

Michaela, a 27-year-old from Benoni, was fatally shot on May 18, last year, at the Key Largo Centre in Boksburg.
Brandon Govender (49) appeared again in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on June 18 in connection with her death. He faces one charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
The matter has been postponed and will resume on July 23.
