City debt rehabilitation incentive opens in September
The arrangement to maintain the incentive depends on the ratepayer adhering to the payment arrangements made

In efforts to ease the financial burden of customers who are in arrears with their municipal accounts, the City of Ekurhuleni is offering a 50% debt write-off incentive.
However, this debt rehabilitation incentive is not automatic as customers will have to apply for such a relief. Those qualifying customers will receive the incentive, which will be from September 1 to March 31, 2023.
Outlining the incentive, MMC for Finance, Economic Development and ICT Fanyana Nkosi said, “This will comprise of a 50% write-off of debt more than one year on the date of application approval – inclusive of rates, service charges, interest, and other costs.
“The balance of the account on the date of application approval, excluding the current account and after the 50% write-off, will be placed in a consolidated arrangement account to be written off incrementally over three years.”
The MMC stated that the arrangement to maintain the incentive depends on the ratepayer adhering to the payment arrangements made.
Residents are encouraged to visit their nearest customer care centre to apply and enquire about the requirements of the debt rehabilitation incentive or visit the city’s website for more information.
