Atlasville substation blast: Power partially restored as City races to stabilise network
Technical teams resumed repairs early this morning as officials warn of temporary outages throughout the day and adjust the full-restoration timeline to December 2.
Power was partially restored to several Boksburg suburbs late last night (November 30) as the City of Ekurhuleni’s (CoE) technical teams continued efforts to stabilise the network, following the outage at the Atlasville substation caused by a fire on November 27.
In a statement, the City said electricity supply returned at around 21:30 to Clearwater and Laccomo Estate, Parkhaven, and parts of Bardene and Bartlett.
According to a statement from the CoE, restoration work resumed at 07:30 this morning as teams continued network reconfiguration and load recovery operations.

“Today’s priority is restoring supply, via contingency measures, to sections of Atlasville, Impala Park, and Beyers Park, which remain without power,” read the statement.
The estimated restoration time for achieving full supply through the temporary contingency configuration has been revised to the evening of December 2. However, officials caution that this may change depending on field conditions, system-loading constraints and weather.

Residents have also been warned to expect temporary supply interruptions throughout the day. These short outages are required to safely isolate and reconnect feeders to the same source as additional load is restored.
The City said a further update will be issued at 15:00 today (December 1).
