WATCH: Netcare Sunward Park celebrates the heart of healthcare on Nurses Day

Netcare Sunward Park Hospital honoured its dedicated nursing staff on May 12 with a special Nurses Day celebration, highlighting their compassion, hard work, and vital role in patient care.

Netcare Sunward Park Hospital marked International Nurses Day on May 12 with a heartfelt celebration dedicated to honouring the commitment, compassion and care shown by its nursing staff every day.

The event brought together staff and management to recognise the vital role nurses play in the healthcare system. A special pledge was read aloud by the nursing team, reaffirming their promise to continue providing dedicated and compassionate care to patients.

“Nursing is at the core of what we do,” said the hospital’s general manager, Greg Mokgoatlheng.
“Our nurses work long 12-hour shifts and spend much of their lives in the hospital. Their work is not easy, but they always go above and beyond. We need to acknowledge their contributions and celebrate their dedication.”

He also highlighted the nationwide shortage of nurses and stressed the importance of recognising and supporting those who remain committed to the profession.

“Nurses are incredibly important to our healthcare system, and it’s essential that we show them the appreciation they deserve.”

During the celebration, the Boksburg Advertiser spoke to several of the hospital’s longest-serving nurses, Anne Midwood, Chloe Mokoena, and Santie Behade, who have been with the hospital since its early days.

“Netcare Sunward Park is like a second home to us. We’ve supported one another through the highs and lows. The love and unity among our team are remarkable. Being honoured today means a lot because it shows that the passion and care we put into our work are seen and valued.
“We’ve seen this hospital grow, and being part of its journey has been a privilege. Days like this remind us why we do what we do.”

The celebration concluded with thoughtful gifts for the nursing staff, including care packages, blankets, and a special lunch, a small token of gratitude for the immense contribution they make to patient care every day.
