Lack of service delivery: Your newspaper is here for you but you have to report it to council first
As your trusted community newspapers, we are committed to holding the City of Ekurhuleni accountable.
At Boksburg Advertiser, we often receive a flood of service delivery complaints from residents via email, phone calls and social media.
These include sewage leaks (frequently), potholes, overgrown grass, open trenches, missing manhole covers, water running down streets and non-functioning streetlights.
As your trusted community newspapers, we are committed to holding the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) accountable.
We take these issues seriously and regularly follow up with the city’s media department, with many positive outcomes.
However, we must emphasise that the newspaper should not be your first point of contact when reporting service delivery issues.

Please follow the correct process to ensure your complaint is officially logged and can be resolved effectively:
What you should do:
• Report it to the CoE Call Centre on 0860 543 000
• Email it to call.centre@ekurhuleni.gov.za
• Log it on the MyCoE app
• Report it to your ward councillor, including the CoE reference number
What you should not do:
• Do not report it to the newspaper unless you already have a CoE reference number; you have reported it to your ward councillor; the issue has not been resolved within the city’s stated turnaround time.
• Do not report it only on community WhatsApp groups or social media platforms, unless you are encouraging others to report it through the correct channels and get a reference number.
• Do not try to fix the problem yourself.
By using the official channels first, you help ensure the issue is registered and can be tracked.
This also gives us, as your local newspaper, the ability to escalate matters that remain unresolved.
Let’s work together to improve service delivery in our communities.
