Final call as SPCA’s Christmas Cheer Fund draws to a close
Time is running out to make a difference. The SPCA’s Christmas Cheer Fund is in its final days, and animals still need your help.
As the festive season winds down, the Boksburg SPCA has issued a final appeal to the community to support its annual Christmas Cheer Fund, which is set to close soon.
Launched on November 1, the campaign aimed to raise R100 000 to help the shelter cope with one of its busiest and most challenging times of the year. With the influx of lost, abandoned, and surrendered animals placing strain on already full kennels, the fund plays a vital role in ensuring that every animal receives proper care.

Donations raised through the Christmas Cheer Fund are earmarked for several essential needs at the shelter. These include the purchase of two new spay sets for the SPCA clinic, the installation of a solar system to curb rising electricity costs, enrichment items for the new cattery, and much-needed dry and wet food for dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens.
A portion of the funds will also go towards an outreach sterilisation and treatment fund, assisting animals in underprivileged communities.
Last festive season, the SPCA exceeded expectations by raising R119 015. However, rising operational costs and increasing demand have made this year’s target more challenging to reach.

Residents who would still like to contribute can visit the Boksburg SPCA on Railway Street or make a direct donation to the shelter’s bank account. Donors are asked to use “Christmas Cheer” and their name – or “anonymous” – as the payment reference. SPCA secretary Sue Beadon said dog and cat food donations will also be appreciated.
Whether through a financial donation or a bag of food, every contribution helps bring comfort, care, and hope to animals waiting for a second chance as the new year begins.
