Fourth Reiger Park accused back in court as bail bid looms

A Reiger Park man who was allegedly found in possession of a firearm used in the deadly shooting that claimed the lives of two women and two police officers returned to the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on September 21.
Mcfoolen Ford (26) is the fourth accused linked to the August 7 shooting in Reiger Park, in which Jaydin Magerman, 27, Roleen Lessing, 31, and Anti-Gang Unit members Constable Thapelo Tlomatsane and Constable Sphiwe Sibeko were killed.
Ford’s matter was postponed to September 23, when the other three accused – Regan Collis (23), Jamal Meyer (24) and Alvino Crawford (27) – are also expected to appear, for his formal bail application.
According to the state, Ford was arrested after allegedly being found in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.
The firearm was allegedly found inside a black bag at a house in Ravenswood, where accused number four had reportedly been assisting with packing furniture.
The state said the firearm was sent for forensic testing and was confirmed to have been used in the August 7 shooting.
Ford, who was born and raised in Reiger Park, told the court that he knows accused number one (Collis) from school, but said they were never friends and have not been in contact since.
He also told the court that he is the breadwinner in his family.
Ford matriculated from Reiger Park Secondary in 2022 before completing a course through Checkers and later a plumbing course in Reiger Park.
His lawyer, Antony Viara Thatcher, argued that Ford should not be considered a danger to the public, pointing out that this is his first criminal charge and that he has no previous criminal convictions.
Ford also indicated that he would not communicate with the defence.
This was his second court appearance since his arrest, and the matter is now set down for a formal bail application.
The state also told the court that there has been a decrease in shootings in Reiger Park since the four accused were taken into custody, with only one shooting reportedly recorded by police during this period.
