Our town’s pretty ugly

It must be soul-destroying when you return to see your hard work unappreciated by people who just don't give a damn.

It’s great to see improvements made by organisations like the Boksburg Community Project and AfriForum.

You deserve a medal for doing what we pay the council to do.

It must be soul-destroying when you return to see your hard work unappreciated by people who just don’t give a damn. They love to litter and wouldn’t notice a clean space if they fell over it.

I’m particularly referring to beggars and hawkers. They are the main culprits. Where they are there’s litter.

People throwing their KFC packets out of the car window are in the same category of couldn’t-care-less individuals.

Why do you litter? What is wrong with using the bin right there or throwing it away when you get to a garage or home?

I bet you allow your children to throw rubbish out the car window too.

More of us can be making a difference and it starts on each of our sidewalks outside our business or home.

There are so many businesses that take great pride in their sidewalk and then, a stone’s throw away, another that is happy for their entrance/sidewalk to look like hell.

I think Boksburg Advertiser should have a “sidewalk of the month” feature where you put a photo in of the businesses that keep their sidewalks clean and pretty. And, maybe name and shame those that don’t!

Just to put it out there, City of Ekurhuleni, you could also be helping clean our streets by removing your old, decrepit, rusted, rotting, fallen-over infrastructure, like streetlights, signboards and the like!

Many hands make light work! It’s time everyone jumped in to get our town in shape again.
