Local karatekas have been hard at work at Katlehong’s DH Williams Hall, preparing for the Jacob Zuma Cup in KwaZulu-Natal.
The tournament will be on August 9 and 10.
The fighters have been preparing hard under the watchful eye of sensei Aubrey Ndlovu (third dan).
Ndlovu has come up after being trained by local expert Ediya Thage who, in turn, was trained by his brother, Peter.
Ediya liked what he saw with the karatekas at the training sessions.
“They’ve been preparing hard on Mondays to Saturdays,” he said.
The veteran karate man has confidence in Ekurhuleni’s karate people.
“Ekurhuleni has good fighters, I think we’ll do well,” he said.
This will be the fifth instalment of the JZ Cup.
Over the years Ekurhuleni karatekas have brought home numerous gold medals from the championships.
Ediya will also be using the tournament to prepare for the European Championships, in Unkraine, in September.
Thage also wants the fighters to be properly conditioned for the World Championships, which Ekurhuleni will be hosting next year.
“Many will bring good results,” he said regarding the JZ Cup.
