Athletes Meyer and Maisela fly Boksburg flag

Boksburg Athletic Club's Michelle Meyer and Willie Maisela put on good performances at the Central Gauteng Athletics Cross Country Championships, at Boksburg City Stadium last Saturday, August 17.

They both came second in their categories.

Meyer ran 4km in 17:22 minutes to second in the sub-veteran women (age 35-39) division.

Maisela ran his 8km race in 38:18 minutes to come second in the grandmaster men (age 60-64) section.

The event saw numerous athletes from all over the central Gauteng region compete in it.

The senior women’s race was won by Bonitas’ Mpho Mabuza in a time of 14:46 minutes.

She was followed by the University of Johannesburg (UJ) trio of Keneliwe Sesing (15:07), Rita Obisi (16:12) and Tebogo Masehla (17:23).

Marko Bucarizza of Wits won the senior men’s race.

He ran it in 12:11 minutes.

Scaw’s Thabo Motaung (12:35) and Itumeleng Tshetlanyane (12:39) came second and third respectively.
