East Rand United crash out in semi-fiinal clash

East Rand United were dumped out of the Valke Kestrel League in one of two semi-final matches that were played on the weekend of September 21 and 22.

United, who finished third in the overall league standings, lost 25-22 to log runner-up Buffels, in a closely contested match that saw all the tries of the match being scored in the first half.

Leroy Hanse opened the score for United with pivot Donique Perry adding two converted tries before Cyril Bregan added the fourth.

Buffels, however, had other ideas and scored tries of their own to finish the high-scoring first-half, leading 22-19.

The game’s high tempo continued into the second stanza with points coming courtesy of both teams exchanging penalties.

Log winners Meyerton defeated Delmas in the other semi-final encounter to set-up a final showdown against Buffels, which took place on Saturday, September 28.
