All systems go for battle

Golden Gloves Promotions has released an update on its state of readiness for its long-awaited boxing event since the lockdown dubbed ‘Back 4 Battle’.

The event is scheduled to take place at the home of South African boxing Emperors Palace on October 10 and as far as Golden Gloves is concerned, all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of everyone involved, are taken and it’s all systems go.

However, the success of the event is still subject to the approval of sport minister Nathi Mthethwa, who is expected to give a response sooner rather than later.

Golden Gloves event coordinator Jeffrey Ellis said: “We’ve taken all the necessary precautions and the worst that could happen, depending on the response the minister gives us, is for the initial date of October 10 to be pushed back, but we are ready to go on the tenth.

“We’ve taken no chances and have tested every single boxer, sparring partner and trainers and all results have come back negative.

“We’ve already put the ring up, we’ve set up the venue and we will be inviting all parties involved in making the event possible for an inspection to prove our readiness.

“Should we be given the go-ahead, every single person who will make up the required number at the event will have to be in the bubble here at Emperors Palace for a week heading to the date to ensure that everyone is safe come the day.”

Back 4 Battle promises a bumper bout card fitting of a return of boxing action following a long enforced hiatus – including the finale of the 4@War junior middleweight tournament which will see Brandon Thysse take on Boyd Allen.
