Former Makopano Boksburg Rugby Club first team captain Johan Labuschagne has lauded the club’s former vice-chairperson Sean Scheepers.
Labuschagne, who is the incumbent scrumhalf for the Owls, was reacting to the exit of Scheepers, who recently left the club and immigrated to England with his family.
Scheepers played, coached and managed at the Prince George Park club between 1996 and 2020.
“Sean [Scheepers] is the one guy that made me stay there (the club) and only later on did I consider the rest of the guys to be my brothers,” explained the halfback.
“I wanted to move to another club and at some stage wanted to stop playing for good but Sean always phoned me, treated me greatly and asked if I could please continue playing for the Owls. I gladly accepted as he was just a great man and I didn’t want to let him down.
“I would love for people to know that many coaches or board members can play a big role in a young man’s life when it comes to rugby and even in life.”
Scheepers’ new home is now Borehamwood, a town situated in Southern England.
