JJ wins bodybuilding World Cup

Impala Park bodybuilder Jannie Jacobus Brits was crowned champion of his classic bodybuilding category during the International Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (IBFF) World Cup held at Vodaworld in Midrand on December 5.

The competition, which usually includes international athletes, only saw local participants this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Brits, widely known as JJ, said: “I was competing against eight other athletes who were in amazing shape and I knew it was going to be tough for the judges to decide on the winner.
“When they announced my number for first place, I was beyond happy and grateful, all the hard work, week in and week out, had finally paid off,” expressed the 29-year-old, before elaborating on where he draws his inspiration.

“I have so many local and international athletes who inspire me on a daily basis but if I must choose one, it will have to be Regan Grimes from Canada. He’s got the ultimate bodybuilding physique which any young bodybuilder like myself dreams to possess – size, proportion and symmetry.

When asked on the background of his young bodybuilding career, he added: “To be honest, doing a bodybuilding show was just something on the bucket list I had to tick, but when I won my first show, I just had to carry on as I fell in love with the sport. Now, it’s my passion and not a hobby, this is what I work for everyday, improving myself day after day for the next competition.”

Brits, who stands at 1.75m tall and with a competition weight of 75kg, began competing in 2016.
