Outspoken Beyers Park EFC star Billy Oosthuizen has told the Advertiser he misses being punched in the face as the pandemic continues to affect sport.
Oosthuizen gave the unusual response during an interview with the Advertiser as the Advertiser quizzed local MMA fighters on how sports’ lengthy stoppage due to the pandemic has affected them.
“The absence from the hexagon has been nothing short of frustrating, as I can’t fight,” stressed the striker.
“I’m still training because to keep in the game you have to keep fit. The coronavirus is a problem, but we can’t do anything about it so I just let it be. Please everyone, just do your part and follow the rules so that this thing can pass,” pleaded Oosthuizen.
The bantamweight fighter’s plea could be understood considering that since the introduction of the lockdown, he’s lost all of his sponsors and had to get a normal job like everyone else to survive.
Oosthuizen, who holds a 4-3 record, described lockdown as ‘hell and only hell’ but said being around his family has helped a lot.
On how his training regimen has changed since the lack of EFC action, the fighter responded: “Without the right motivation, you can’t go insane during training like you’re supposed to.”
Oosthuizen’s last outing was against DRC international Aly “The Viper” Kalambay in Pretoria on March 14 – a little more than a week before the world changed for the worst.
