CGA elections to go ahead

The elections will take place at the recreation hall at Germiston Stadium at 09:00 on March 26.

Despite rumours of internal conflict and election irregularities that led to the postponement of the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) elections on March 5, the federation has confirmed it will go ahead with voting as planned on March 26.

CGA GM Mandla Radebe confirmed nominations are closed and all is in order to elect a new leadership structure for the province.“All is set for the election. For a club to vote, they must be in good standing and have sent their credentials to the office,” he said.

On the rumoured internal squabbles and irregularities, Radebe said there was a deliberate attempt by some members to disrupt the elections.“It was just the number of ballot papers not in correspondence with the number of delegates. The emotions were high and it was the best decision to postpone at that moment.”

Steven Khanyile, Thokozani Mazibuko, Boyce Joko, Queen Fatima Mofokeng and Karabo Mabilo are all vying for the position of president that was left vacant by James Moloi, who was appointed president of Athletics South Africa (ASA) last year. The elections will take place at the recreation hall at Germiston Stadium at 09:00 on March 26. The federation has appointed the IEC to ensure a free and fair election.
