James Kupferberg is preparing for the SA JKA National Championships to be held from May 20 – 21.
This is after he claimed gold in kata and kumite at the provincial championships.
“I’m training on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and lately I even train on weekends because I want to be in my best shape for the upcoming tournament,” said Kupferberg.
“Karate is my first love and I want to be the best at it. I have moved up the ranks in karate having obtained my purple belt. I will work towards my black belt. I look up to my sensei Warren Bainton who has been in the karate fraternity for a long time. He instils discipline and respect in me.
“He has taught me various self-defence and attacking techniques. I only started doing karate in 2016 at school and I immediately fell in love with it.”
