ERU to participate in league

The club is urging the community to support the team.

The Reiger Park-based East Rand United (ERU) is delighted to announce that the club will participate in the Eastern Cape Super 16 Rugby Competition club tournament.

According to ERU chairperson Marius de Vos, the Eastern Cape Rugby Union, Eastern Cape Sports Federation, and other stakeholders are working hard to get the annual programme of heritage club rugby underway.

ERU’s first game against Progress takes place at The Graveyard, their home ground, on January 22.

“Progress is a team to be reckoned with because they are back-to-back winners of this competition,” said De Vos.

He said the team is training hard to prepare for this competition and is in a good space.

“This year, we have an exciting group of boys and excellent coaches. I believe they will do us proud in this competition.

“We would love to make good strides here and take club rugby to another level by adding our skills to this tournament.

“Furthermore, I would like to encourage community members to come and support the team on game days.”

De Vos said the team needs a sponsor to assist the club with day-to-day administration.

“Right now, our club is going through financial strain because we don’t have a donor or sponsor. We appeal to businesses and sports foundations to come to the party and support the men.”
