Boksburg Cardinals shine at National Baseball Tournament

Boksburg Cardinals Baseball Club is extremely proud of all their club members who had the honour of representing Gauteng at the National Baseball Tournament held in Port Elizabeth.

Boksburg Cardinals Baseball Club is beaming with pride about the achievements of members who represented Gauteng at the National Baseball Tournament in Gqeberha during March and April.

Gavin Watkins, senior chairperson of the club, congratulated the following players, coaches, umpires and scorers who brought home the honours.

According to Watkins, all players, whether senior or junior, put forth their best efforts and their dedication was evident.

He added that some players were recognised for their exceptional performance throughout the tournament, an honour bestowed upon those who truly stood out.

The U12 A and B Gauteng Squad.

They are particularly proud of the U10A side, which finished top of their age group.

“Congratulations to Luke Jooste, a U10 player, who was selected to represent South Africa at the World Children’s Baseball Fair in Japan from July 28 to August 5.

“We could not be prouder of all the phenomenal talent in our club and extend a huge thank you to all our coaches who pour their heart and soul in shaping and moulding this talent and turning out champions,” said Watkins.

Results of National Baseball Tournament
• Gauteng A were runners-up in the senior women’s and men’s tournament.
• Cape Town A beat Gauteng A 4-1 in the men’s final while the women’s final was a one-sided affair with Cape Town Women winning 10-4 for the gold.
• In the juniors’ tournament, Gauteng girls won the gold in the U18 and U15 divisions, beating Western Cape 15-0 and 16-9 in the final, respectively.
• In the boys’ division, the Western Cape dominated, winning the U12 trophy and convincingly beating Gauteng U15A 12-1 in the final while also outclassing Gauteng U18A 8-0.
• The Gauteng U10 boys salvaged a gold for the province after edging the Western Cape 14-13 in a thrilling final to stop the Cape Province’s total dominance of the competition.
