East Rand United (ERU) showed progress by defeating Elsburg Eagles Rugby Club 22-9 in a Merlin League game in Reiger Park on May 25.
The men from Reiger Park started off strong and dominated the first half.
When the whistle blew for half-time, the score was 19-9 in United’s favour.
Shaun Johannes, head of the coaches at the club, said the game went according to plan.
“We are going through a transitional stage. The Valke Union asked us to play in the Merlin League to allow us to get back on our feet.”
Johannes said he is positive the club is ready for the rest of the season.
“We hope to bring the cup back home once again. Some of our senior players are also expected will return soon, which is a good thing for the club,” said Johannes.
The try scorers were Thando Koyana, Siya Ntakumba, Mphumleli Ndevu and Balunga Mbangi.
