Parkrand karateka finish the year off on a high
Students have their sights set on competing nationally as internationally, next year.
Karateka from Parkrand’s Goju Karate Academy masterfully took top honours during the SZA National Championships in Krugersdorp recently.
Twenty-five students from the local dojo stepped onto the mats with skilled discipline thus finishing at the top of the medal table.
“Hard work once again paid off with our athletes bringing home a total of 43 medals which included 24 gold, 13 silver and six bronze,” said fourth Dan instructor, sensei Tarryn Madgwick.
During the competition, the dojo’s entrants further claimed the six top positions among the top ten individual athletes.
They are Natalia Killian, Louis Smuts, Riley Madgwick, Joshua Ferreira, Ian van Tonder and Niara-Ze Magoo.
“Our students are putting in a ton of effort and setting their sights on claiming more podium finishes at next year’s WUKF SA National Championships as well as the WUKF World Championships in Malmo, Sweden,” she said.
