Fighting in the EFC is a dream come true for ‘Feralspunky’

Being able to fight in the EFC reminds 'Feralspunky' that he achieve anyhing he sets his mind to.

Godfrey ‘Feralspunky’ Mkhwanazi from Parkrand is determined to make his mark as an EFC champion.

With a record of 1-2-0, Feralspunky achieved a victory over Charles ‘Fearless’ Lamptey in March last year, but suffered a loss to Ntando ‘The Zulu Warrior’ Zondi in October.

The Boksburg Advertiser caught up with the local MMA fighter from Godfather MMA in Westwood to learn more about his journey and career.

When and why did you start training in martial arts?
I started in 2019 because I’ve always had a passion for sports

What inspired you to become an MMA fighter?
It looked like a lot of fun and something I’d enjoy doing.

How did you transition to MMA?
I made the transition from bodybuilding to MMA, looking for something more exciting.

What is your best achievement?
Making it to the EFC has definitely been my biggest achievement.

How did you get your fight name?
My fight name is a tribute to my late girlfriend, Spunky, combined with where I started my training, at Junkyard MMA with Ferdinand Basson. That’s why I chose ‘Feralspunky.’

What is your favourite technique and why?
My favourite technique is the jab, because it leads to the perfect 6,7 combo.

Who is your hero and why?
Batman is my hero. He’s just really cool and relatable to me.

Tell us something interesting about yourself.
I don’t really have anything that stands out as particularly interesting.

Who would you like to fight in the future?
I see the championship belt in my future, so I’m ready to fight anyone holding that title. It doesn’t matter who it is.

What is your biggest goal?
My ultimate goal is to make it into the UFC and deliver exciting fights for the fans, while putting South Africa on the map.

What does it mean for you to fight in the EFC?
Fighting in the EFC as a professional has been a lifelong dream. Waking up to this reality reassures me that I can achieve anything I set my mind to.
