Local athletes in fine form at CGA league meeting

The last league meeting is on February 22 at Germiston Stadium.

On the day Leandri Holtzhausen shattered her own senior women’s national hammer throw record of 66.54m, bettering the 66.11m she set in 2023, local athletes delivered masterclass performances to continue their build-up to the CGA junior and youth track and field championships, next month.

Sprinter Logan Oosthuizen led the Benoni contingent in the third CGA league meeting at Germiston Stadium recently with a hard-fought second place in the U16 boys’ 200m dash.

Running in the last heat, the Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) athlete only had eventual winner Khotso Motsamai’s 22.95 to beat after the Nedbank Running Club sprint sensation made light work of Janco Bornman’s 23.55, Kamva Rashuza’s 25.78 and Jesse Nhlapo’s 25.12 set in heats one, two and three.

Despite winning his heat, Oosthuizen, who boasts a PB of 22.60 in the distance, missed his target by 0.12 when he clocked 23.07 to finish behind Motsamai in the overall standings.

After opening his season with a 23.50 in the 200m and 11.55 in the 100m for fifth place in the first league last month, the Jeppe Boys High learner said there is room for improvement.

“There is more to come. That was a great time. I will do better in the upcoming weeks,” he said.
