The Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) calls on runners to enter the Tommy Malone Memorial Race scheduled for October 19 at Boksburg City Stadium.

The race, held in honour of Malone (the BAC’s first chairperson and winner of the 1966 Comrades Marathon), includes the 15km main route and the 7.5km fun run.

It will also form part of the BAC’s 50th anniversary celebration.

Kabelo Mwahla of Qhubeka AC won the men’s race in a PB 49:00, powering to victory ahead of veteran runner Kopano Muso (49:23) and Nedbank’s Bright Mikolongwe (50:51).

Kabelo Mwahla won the men’s race last year.
Lauren Quinn on her way to winning the women’s race last year.

Jeppe Quondam’s Lauren Quinn was the only woman to complete the race under 60 minutes. She clocked 59:59 for her victory, with Pamela Gwebu of Xcel AC crossing the line in 01:05:01 for second place. Lauren Dance completed the podium in 01:06:21.

According to the BAC, the first 500 entrants will receive goody bags with various products while a lucky participant will walk away with brand new running shoes valued at R3 999.

There are also limited edition t-shirts, with Malone’s photo crossing the 1966 Comrades finish line, for purchase to the first 300 entrants.
