Nayi’Lento Easter Tournament crowns Juventus FC champions

Local under 17 easter tournament keeps youth off the streets as Juventus FC claims the trophy in Delmore.

At the Nayi’Lento Easter Soccer Tournament, from April 3 to 5, U17 teams went head-to-head in a battle for victory at Delmore Ulana football grounds.

Originally set to feature twelve U17 teams, the tournament took a turn when Delmore City Rovers withdrew due to a misunderstanding with the organising board.
This resulted in only 11 teams progressing in the competition.

Despite the setback, the tournament continued successfully, showcasing talent and determination from the remaining teams.

Semi-final clash sets the tone
The opening match saw Black Nation United face AC Milan in a tightly contested game. Black Nation emerged victorious with a 1-0 win, securing their place in the final.

The final match saw Black-Nation United face Juventus FC. Juventus delivered a strong performance, defeating Black Nation United 3-0 to claim the championship title. Black Nation United finished as runners-up after a commendable run in the tournament.

Community support is at the heart of it all
The tournament was proudly supported by local sponsors, including ACDP, Icons of Tomorrow, Cape Holy and Standard Bank, which provided water for the teams throughout the event.

Event organiser and founder of Icons of Tomorrow, Nceba Hlabeni, highlighted the deeper purpose behind the tournament and the need for continued support.

“This tournament is about more than just football. It’s about keeping young people off the streets, away from drugs, and giving them something positive to focus on, especially in our informal settlement.

“We are grateful for the support received and call on more sponsors to help as we grow this initiative, as we plan to host further tournaments.”

Final standings
Juventus FC secured a trophy, a new full kit, gold medals and a sum of R3 000, while Black Nation United were recognised for their hard work with silver medals and a sum of R1 500.

The Nayi’Lento Easter Tournament has proved that football remains a powerful tool for unity, discipline, and positive change within the community.
