Boksburg fighters earn medals at nationals

They won three bronze medals and a silver.

Devon Lang spearheaded the charge for Godfather Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) at the South African MMA Championships in Vanderbijl Park from May 1 to 5.

Lang walked away with a silver medal after finishing runner-up in the heavyweight 120.2kg division. He lost his final bout to Mbasa Khosa by submission through an Americana hold.

The Boksburg-based stable also celebrated bronze medals from Clinton Fourie, Brayden du Toit and Sven Engels to round off an impressive showing at the national championships.

Competing in the featherweight 65.8kg division, Fourie enjoyed a strong run to the semi-finals. He opened his campaign with two technical knockout victories over Moegammat Saadiq du Plessis and

Andile Answer Ndebele before his title hopes were ended by Devon Sarkies, who claimed a unanimous decision victory in their semi-final clash.

Du Toit secured bronze in the lightweight 70.3kg category after suffering a submission defeat to Zander Cronjè, who forced him to tap out with a Von Flue choke.

Engels also earned a bronze medal after a spirited performance in the middleweight 83.9kg division, capping off a successful tournament for the Godfather MMA team.
