MasterChef Sanet makes it through elimination

After losing the first contestant in the first elimination round of MasterChef South Africa, it was a new dawn and a new day for the MasterChef South Africa Season Two Top 15, as they faced their first Mystery Box Challenge.

MasterChef judge Pete Goffe-Wood explained that each Mystery Box contained seven different ingredients, and that the contestants were required to use all seven,
Seven because the brand new VW Golf 7 will be part of the MasterChef winner’s prize package.
The winner of this challenge won a master class, and the bottom six contestants went into an elimination round that would see one of them leaving the competition.
The Mystery Boxes with which the Top 15 were challenged contained a whole chicken, capers, fresh asparagus spears, ricotta cheese, verjuice, toasted breadcrumbs and marrowbones.
The colourful financial manager from Boksburg, Sanet Labuschagne (47), decided to make fried chicken and savoury custard.
She had never eaten a savoury custard before, let alone cooked one, she explained, but she knew she had to push herself if she wanted to win.
Judge Andrew Atkinson used the opportunity for a teaching moment, and pointed out to Sanet how her custard resembled scrambled egg, because she had cooked it on too high a heat.
Sanet was reduced to tears.
“I’m here to make my dreams come true,” she sobbed.
“I have to push it. I have to!”
The bottom six contestants who went through to an elimination round were Leandri, Mary, Amanda, Sanet, Tumi, and Seline. As they nervously entered the MasterChef kitchen Sanet was worried.
“The tables are lined up on the side … odd-looking boxes on the tables with a little spoon and a fork, and our minds are racing,” she commented. Thankfully Sanet’s dreams can still come true, as she made it through the elimination round.
