Interact Club elects executive committee members

“The Interact Club is built on a strong foundation of empowerment. It helps learners develop leadership and personal integrity skills.”

The Interact Club of Boksburg High School inaugurated its new executive committee on February 4.

It is a learner-unifying club. Its main purpose is to offer a platform for learners to work together to offer their skills at their school while understanding the international notion of helping people in their various communities.

The new executive committee members are Abigail Burness (president), Tara Mathobie (vice-president), Thelrey Hartnick (secretary), Lee Mstiti (treasurer), Giselle Olifant and Ompha Makhomu (marketing officers), Keelyn Abrahams (PR officer) and Zanele Sibiya (convener).

Burness said she was happy to be the new president of the club; she will take on her duties with pride and dignity.
“It is such a great opportunity. I would like to thank the people who voted for me. My responsibility is to guide the club and lead the fund-raisers.

“It will also be my responsibility to identify the organisation that needs assistance in Boksburg, so we can help it as a club,” said Burness.

The principal of Boksburg High, Enoch Thango, said the club was formed years ago before he became principal. The club has educative and empowering programmes for learners. However, its programmes were halted by the pandemic for three years. He also said the club has played an essential role in helping underprivileged learners and various welfare centres in Boksburg.

Thango said the charity drives are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Boksburg.
“The Interact Club is built on a foundation of empowerment. It helps learners develop leadership and personal integrity skills.

“It also encourages learners to practise thoughtfulness, how to help others, be family-orientated and respect everyone.

“The club preaches the importance of individual responsibility and the development of life skills. It shapes them to have good moral values.

“We are looking forward to working with the new executive committee. We will work together to reach greater heights and build on the foundation of the Interact Club that was introduced in 1962 in the USA,” said Thango.
