Lakeside Primary delivers a top performance at athletics meet

The school described its achievement as a well-earned victory, with four other primary schools competing to achieve the first position.

Lakeside Primary School athletes represented their school well when they emerged as the best performing athletics team in a track meet held at the Boksburg Stadium on February 9.

This came after the Department of Education announced that schools are given the green light to resume contact and non-contact sports, but without spectators, and should follow safety measures.
These activities include arts and culture activities, training and travelling to participate in district, provincial and national inter-school matches or championships and tournaments.

A total of five primary schools competed in the athletics event, where Lakeside achieved first place with a score of 218 points.                                                                                                                                                    Summerfield Primary came second with 174 points followed by Parkdene Primary (164), Freeway Park Primary (156) and Parkrand Primary (152).

School management congratulated all the members of the Cluster Seven athletics teams for their efforts and for striving to do their best regardless of the unfavourable conditions the pandemic (Covid-19) brought with.

“We are super proud of our athletes who managed to perform at their best despite the difficult conditions we trained under. Well done to our principal Craig Jansen and the athletic team,” said Lakeside Primary’s deputy principal, Joan Moosa.

During the event, the committee chose the best performing athletes to be part of the team that will represent the cluster at the Boksburg Champions Inter-Schools Athletics competition, which will be held on February 23 at the Boksburg Stadium.
The upcoming competition will see all the eight clusters in Boksburg fighting for the first position, and the event will culminate with the selection of the best performers who will then represent Boksburg in the district competition, which will then be followed by the provincial and national inter-schools athletics competitions.
