Speedsters warned

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department has warned motorists to abide by the rules of the road at all times, following the arrest of more speeding motorists in the Brakpan area.

“Motorists who fail to comply with the prescribed speed limits, especially second offenders, must realise that diversion programmes and being slapped with fines might be a thing of the past, “said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“The courts are contemplating stringently applying the law, the consequences of which will be the suspension of driving licences.”

The EMPD arrested 25 motorists in Brakpan between Friday, October 11, and Sunday, October 13.

On Friday, 12 motorists were arrested on the R23 between Lukas Steyn and Geluksdal roads.

Saturday yielded six arrests on the R23 between Airport Drive and Rangeview Road, and seven motorists were arrested on Sunday, for speeding along the N17 (Dalpark Plaza) and the R23 between Airport Drive and Rangeview Road.

On Monday, morning operations resulted in the arrest of six motorists for speeding on the R23 between Lukas Steyn and Rangeview Roads.

A further 23 speedsters were arrested between Tuesday, October 8, and Thursday, October 10, along the R23, between Rangeview and Dube roads, and between Lukas Steyn and Geluksdal roads.

“All the arrested speedsters are expected to appear in the Tsakane and Brakpan Magistrates Courts to face reckless and negligent driving charges, which could result in them losing their driving licences,” added Kgasago.
