Work together to stop road carnage

“Enough is enough! Let us all work together in helping one another as road-users, in ensuring that in this festive season we don’t end up counting corpses and maimed bodies, but blessings and happy moments enjoyed.”

This impassioned plea came from Ekurhuleni MMC for Community Safety Clr Mthuthuzeli Siboza, during the launch of Ekurhuleni’s festive season law enforcement campaign, last week, in Springs.

EMPD and Gauteng traffic officers conducted a roadblock on the Tonk Meter Highway, between the N17 and Rietfontein Road, where road safety awareness pamphlets were issued to motorists and pedestrians.

It is common knowledge that an avoidable and a huge number of lives are lost on a daily basis on our roads and that the consequences are far-reaching both socially and economically.

“Consequently, let us regard road safety as everybody’s responsibility,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“Let us all make a concerted effort to assist authorities in the waging of this war against road carnage by observing the traffic laws and acting responsibly on our roads.

“Let us all as drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike be respectful of the rules of the road and be considerate to one another in order to avert tragic situations.”
