EMPD nabs man with stolen goods worth R40 000

A 33-year-old man was arrested by members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department's Community Liaison Unit, after he was found with suspected stolen goods worth R40 000.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, the man broke into a Brakpan home on Tuesday afternoon.

“He knew the owners were not at home and he stole appliances, clothing and groceries,” said Kgasago.

“With all the time in the world, the suspect called his friends under the pretext that his aunty was moving house and he needed a vehicle to transport the goods and clothing.

“The unsuspecting friends assisted the man to load the stolen property into their Volkswagen bakkie and headed for Vosloorus, in Boksburg.”

The EMPD stopped them en route.

“On finding a plasma television set, a home theatre system, a brand new bicycle, blankets, clothing, cutlery and food, and when the suspect could not give a satisfactory answer as to why they were in the vehicle, the main culprit confessed to the crime.

“He was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property at the Dawn Park Police Station, and is expected to appear in the Vosloorus Magistrates Court soon.”
