Six drunk drivers arrested

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested six drunk drivers at a roadblock, in Brakpan, on Friday, last week.

The roadblock was conducted at about 7pm, at an undisclosed location, and the arrested drivers were detained at the Brakpan Police Station.

Speed enforcement operations conducted in Brakpan from Wednesday, last week, to Monday, netted 40 speedsters.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, the operation “covered all problematic stretches of road in Brakpan”.

“The highest speed recorded was 146km/h in a 70km zone, by a 46-year-old male driver in a Toyota LDV,” said Kgasago.

“The other 39 were clocked at speeds of between 152km/h and 159km/h in an 80km/h zone”.

Charges of reckless and negligent driving were laid against all the offenders at the Brakpan Police Station.

“They were all released on bail of R500 each and are expected to appear in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court soon,” added Kgasago.
