Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend (February 14, 15 and 16):

Friday

A would-be burglar was apprehended by a Brenthurst couple after trying to break into their Rook Street home.

The husband (49) heard a noise outside at about 11.40am and, upon investigation, saw a man banging against a bedroom window, attempting to break it.

Realising he had been discovered, the man fled immediately and jumped over a wall, into a neighbour’s property.

The husband gave chase, catching up with him in Lester Road, while his wife followed in their car.

The couple eventually caught the man and contacted police.

A white Isuzu bakkie was stolen from Voortrekker Road.

A car parked at an address in Feiss Street, Brakpan North, was broken into and its radio was stolen.

Burglars stole a computer from a home in Essex Drive, Dalview.

Saturday

A case of attempted murder was opened after a severely injured man was found along Langenhoven Road, in Dalpark.

A resident of the street had contacted sector police at about 3.30am, to report the man, who was crying outside her house.

Police officers arrived and found the bloodied man, who claimed he had been taken from his home in Actonville, Benoni, by four men and assaulted.

He alleged that the men had then dropped him off in Dalpark.

Paramedics were called and the man, who sustained injuries to his head, face and hands, was taken to the Far East Rand Hospital.

Two burglaries were reported.

A home in Johan Street, Sunair Park, was robbed of a television set, music system, laptop, jewellery, cash and other household items, while a property in Prince George Avenue was burgled of three television sets.

A red Ford Laser was stolen from Prince George Avenue.

A supermarket in Maryvlei was robbed by a gang of men at about 8.30pm.

Three men entered the store, while four kept watch outside (two at the door and two at the street corner), and pointed guns at the staff members.

The men took cigarettes, cash and airtime, with a total value of R12 000, and a cellphone.

They fired two shots at the supermarket before fleeing on foot.

No injuries were reported.

Sunday

A female resident of Derby Street was awakened by a burglar in her home at 2.10am.

The man had crept into her bedroom, when she woke up and started screaming.

The burglar fled with her laptop, iPad, cellphone and wristwatch.

A television set was stolen from a home in Glamorgan Avenue, Dalpark.
