Explosives found in Brenthurst

Members of the Brakpan SAPS and the EMPD'S Equestrian Unit arrested a man at an address in Brenthurst, last week, after ammunition and explosives were found in his possession.

Acting on a tip-off, the officers arrived at the address along Tweedy Road, on Monday, at about 1pm, to conduct a search.

“On arrival at the residence, members found several live 9mm rounds inside a bucket,” said Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan police station commander.

“The bucket was found near an outside room on the property.”

Joubert told the Herald that the room was then searched and a variety of rounds and explosives were found.

Among these were a stun grenade, 10 rocket hand fired para flares, three signal flares, and various rounds, including two high explosive incendiary rounds and a R5 magazine with one live round.

The man was arrested on charges of being in possession of illegal ammunition and explosives.

Police have continued to keep a close eye on the property and conducted another search on Friday, last week.

“The investigation is on-going,” added Joubert.
